As Canon continues to expand their premium printer lineup, their paper lineup continues to grow as well. Canon has announced three new fine art papers, well-suited for printing on their imagePROGRAF line using their LUCIA PRO inks. The trio of papers are: Premium Fine Art Smooth, Premium Fine Art Bright White and Premium Polished Rag.

Of the new paper products, Canon USA's President and COO Yuichi Ishizuka said, "Canon continues to be committed to our professional printing audience and these new papers are a great example of providing the tools needed to create great artwork. Having a wide range of versatile media support for our printers allows users to choose the best paper to create their masterpiece."

The Premium Fine Art Smooth paper is designed specifically to produce deep black levels by allowing the pigment to stay near the paper's surface. The "paper separates the ink-receiving layers into a color-reproduction layer and an absorbing layer allowing more pigment to remain on the surface of the paper for a dramatically improved color reproduction." The 100% cotton base media is free from both lignin and acid, making it well-suited for archival purposes. The "natural" paper has a 310 gsm weight and is available in a variety of cut sheet sizes and also 17, 24, 36 and 44-inch wide rolls.

Premium Fine Art Bright White trades the natural tone of the Fine Art Smooth paper for a brighter tone, but retains its 100% cotton base and acid-free qualities of the Fine Art Smooth paper. Canon's Bright White media is nonetheless free of optical brightening additives (OBAs). It has a 305 gsm weight in is available in the same sizes as the Premium Fine Art Smooth paper.

Rounding out the new papers is the Premium Polished Rag. This semi-gloss, acid-free, bright white paper is 100% cotton-based and "museum-qality." The paper is OBA-free and like the Bright White media, weighs 305 gsm.

The trio of Canon Premium papers are available now although links are not yet available: when they are, this article will be updated.
