You might need a reinforced coffee table if you want to showcase Peter Lik’s latest photo book, “Equation of Time.” His 528-page book weighs over 100 pounds (nearly 50 kilograms) and has dimensions of 30.25 x 22.25 x 6.25 inches (around 77 x 57 x 16 centimeters). “Equation of Time” was released in November 2015 and the open edition of the behemoth book costs just under US$3,000.
Of his book, Lik’s website says, “There are no words to truly describe Peter’s latest, groundbreaking release, Equation of Time. A book by definition only, this epic collection of world-class photography showcases Peter’s most stunning visions from the world around us - 206 of which span up to an incredible 40 inches across. Narrowed down from over one million frames and representing over 30 years of Peter’s career, this impressive 106-pound book is a virtual gallery in itself.” It may not literally be groundbreaking, but at that size and weight, “Equation of Time” might be at least back-breaking.
Peter Lik has shown himself to be a photographer of extravagance before, having reportedly sold a print for $6.5 million and made nearly half a billion dollars of revenue in total print sales. If spending nearly $3,000 (plus shipping) isn’t too rich for your blood, you can contact a representative and purchase a limited edition copy of the book (pricing not publicly available).
