Rokinon has announced two new lenses for Canon EF mount. The two lenses are Special Performance (SP) lenses, meaning that they are Rokinon lenses held to the highest standards and include the company's most advanced optical technology.
The first lens is surely to be of interest to portrait photographers and videographers, the SP 85mm f/1.2. This fast portrait prime lens is said to offer "exceptional low light, bokeh and selective focus capabilities." The lens is constructed of an aluminum alloy and has an ergonomic shape and grip. This manual focus lens includes one aspherical element, two high refractive index elements, ultra multi-coating and a nine-blade diaphragm. The 2.31-pound (1,050 grams) lens has 10 total elements in 7 groups. The lens has a minimum focus distance of 2.62 feet (80 centimeters) and has an 86mm filter thread. You can order the Rokinon SP 85mm f/1.2 lens for Canon EF now for just under US$1,000.
On the wider end, the new Rokinon SP 14mm f/2.4 is a fast, ultra-wide angle prime lens. Like the 85mm f/1.2, this lens is also constructed of an aluminum alloy and has an ergonomic design and focus ring. The lens has a built-in petal-shaped lens hood, nine-blade diaphragm and weighs in at 1.74 pounds (791 grams). The minimum focus distance is 11.02 inches (28 centimeters). The SP 14mm f/2.4 has a complex optical structure, including 18 elements in 14 groups. Two elements are aspherical, one is a hybrid aspherical element, two are extra-low dispersion and three are high refractive index elements. The lens also includes Ultra Multi-Coating to minimize ghosting and flare. You can preorder the SP 14mm f/2.4 now for around $1,000. Availability is expected by the end of March.
