Macphun has launched a new update to their powerful photo editing software, Luminar, dubbed Luminar Neptune. Luminar Neptune’s biggest addition is Accent, an intelligent filter powered by artificial intelligence. Accent can quickly improve your photos in mere seconds by leveraging its AI technology, which was developed in-house at Macphun’s California-based research and development lab.

The Accent AI Filter uses a single slider to make a multitude of adjustments simultaneously, allowing users to worry about only a single image adjustment tool rather than dozens. Of course, users still have access to all of Luminar’s powerful editing tools, but now beginners or experienced users short on time can rely on the artificial intelligence built into the software to speed up their image editing experience.

Of the update, Macphun’s Vice President Kevin La Rue said, “Our mission to make complex photo editing tasks simple and fun led the team at our R&D Lab to explore Artificial Intelligence technology for image enhancement. The Accent AI Filter emerged as a ground-breaking way to make perfect images instantly, incorporating the power of dozens of filters into one convenient tool. This is something other photo software is missing; and what’s more important, it’s something that all photographers will greatly benefit from.”

Luminar Neptune adds "Accent," an AI-powered filter which reduces many image adjustments to a single slider.

The adjustments that Accent makes to your image include things like shadows, highlights, contrast, tone, saturation, exposure, details and much more. Alongside Accent, Luminar Neptune includes a new workspace, which the team calls “Quick & Awesome.” This workspace is focused on delivering as much editing power as possible in a simplified user interface. The workspace includes three filters: The Accent AI filter, Saturation & Vibrance and Clarity.

Luminar Neptune includes additional new features and improvements as well, such as plug-in integration with Aurora HDR 2017 and Creative Kit. There is also faster masking/brushing performance, an improved vignette filter and better memory management to help make the software faster overall. Further, in addition to the Accent Filter and other improvements above, Luminar Neptune includes improvements to in-app animations and mode transition, an update to the crop tool and a local history.
