Back in February, Irix announced their new 11mm f/4 full-frame lens. It is being reported that this lens will begin shipping this week, after already becoming available from some European retailers. Let's take a look at what this lens offers photographers.
As was the case with the Irix 15mm f/2.4 lens, the Irix 11mm f/4 lens will be available in two models: Firefly and Blackstone. For an additional $200, the Blackstone variant is constructed using a heavier, more rugged aluminum-magnesium alloy with an all-metal focus ring and engraved UV light reactive markings, meaning that the lens has glow in the dark markings. The Blackstone version also comes with a hard lens case in place of the soft lens pouch that accompanies the Firefly version. However, if you put a premium on weight, the less expensive Firefly version is 12 percent lighter.
