Well Nikon fans, the wait for your next flagship DSLR may finally be coming to an end. In conjunction with Nikon's 100th anniversary, which is celebrated today, the storied camera manufacturer has announced the development of a "next generation full-frame, high-resolution, high-speed digital SLR camera" that will be named the Nikon D850.
Nikon went on to share a bit of information regarding the upcoming DSLR, saying that it will be a "formidable tool for creators who will not compromise on exceptional image quality and versatility, including both aspiring and professional photographers as well as hobbyists who capture landscapes, weddings, sports, fashion, commercial imagery and multimedia content creators." Versatility seems to be the key point here, as that just about covers every major photographic discipline that is out there.
As mentioned, the D850 will be the successor to the popular D810. Nikon says that "this powerful new FX-format digital SLR camera is engineered with a range of new technologies, features and performance enhancements that are a direct result of feedback from users, who demand the very best from their camera equipment. The D850 will exceed the expectations of the vast range of photographers that seek the high resolution and high-speed capabilities that only a Nikon of this caliber complemented by NIKKOR lenses can offer."
No other information such as megapixels, body design, ISO range, video capabilities, price point or even a release window were provided at this time. For those, we will have to wait and see, as Nikon says "information regarding the release of this product will be announced at a later date."
So now that you know it's coming, what do you hope to see in the new D850? What are "deal breakers" if they aren't included? What feature are you not expecting, and would surprise you if it appears in the specs list? Let us know in the comments below.
