Samsung has announced the latest version of their incredibly small and lightweight SSDs: the T5. Boasting incredible transfer speeds of up to 540 MB/s and up to 2 TB of storage on a single drive, Samsung's latest is designed to work for traveling photographers and videographers who don't want to waste weight and space on larger, heavier HDDs. Smaller than the average business card (74 x 57.3 x 10.5 millimeters (3.0 x 2.3 x 0.4 inches)), the drive weighs jsut 51 grams and fits in the palm of your hand.

Samsung will be offering two different colors they call "Deep Black" and "Alluring Blue" to distinguish between two size tiers. The black will denote the 1TB or 2TB models, while the blue will be either 250GB or 500GB. Samsung says with no moving parts and a shock-resistant internal frame, "the T5 offers users peace of mind as it can withstand accidental drops of up to 2 meters (6.6 feet)." Samsung also says that their Portable SSD Software for PCs and Macs is based on AES 256-bit hardware data encryption, which makes it easy to secure the device and update firmware when needed. It will also be compatible with a mobile app that will be available for Android devices (iOS was not mentioned).

The T5 will include two connection cables: USB-C to C and USB-C to A, which allows for just about every device on the market to connect to the devices.

The T5 comes with a three-year limited warranty and will be available globally Aug. 15 with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) starting at $129.99 for the 250GB model, $199.99 for 500GB, $399.99 for 1TB and $799 for 2TB. For more information, visit Samsung.com
