Fujifilm continues to expand their GF lens lineup, but that isn’t slowing down the demand for lens adapters from Fujifilm GFX owners, especially those who moved from a full-frame system and want to continue to use some of their favorite lenses. For Canon system users, Techart has a new Canon EF lens to Fujifilm GFX 50S adapter which includes both autofocus and aperture control.
The smart adapter supports AF-S mode and EF lenses with image stabilization. Aperture can be controlled via the camera's command dial and focal length and aperture data will also be saved when using the adapter. Techart has tested numerous lenses and claim that the autofocus performance is satisfactory, although obviously real-world testing is needed and what counts as good enough for one user might not cut it for another user.
Users will be able to upgrade the adapter's firmware and Techart is currently working on AF-C and video recording functionality, so early adopters have improvements to look forward to down the road. Of course, not every full-frame lens adapts well to a medium format sensor, but the short flange distance of the GFX 50S does mean that some lenses are well-suited for the GFX's larger sensor.
Techart provided a sample of their new EF to GFX smart adapter to photographer Jonas Rask for review and he tried 45mm f/2.8 TS-E, 50mm f/1.2, 85mm f/1.2 and 300mm f/2.8 lenses and Sigma 24-35mm f/2, 35mm f/1.4, 50mm f/1.4, 85mm f/1.4 and 135mm f/1.8 optics. I urge you to check out his full review, but long story short is that the Techart adapter worked well for him and there are plenty of sample images for you to peruse.
The Techart Canon EF - Fujifilm GFX Autofocus Adapter is available for preorder here and it will sell for around US$500. Delivery will begin in mid-October.
