Since 2011, Macphun has been developing software for Mac computers. Their first software, FX Photo Studio Pro, was launched on Mac App Store and the developer continued to make more products, many of which have won awards from Apple themselves.

Earlier this year, Macphun started developing software for Windows as well, dedicated to the goal of bringing their software to more photographers. With Aurora HDR and Luminar being available on both PC and Mac, the company decided it was time for a name change.

Macphun is changing their name to Skylum. Starting early in 2018, this change will be fully implemented, but for now, it's going to be a gradual rollout. Along with the new name and logo, the company is putting Adobe squarely in its crosshairs. While Macphun/Skylum software works within Adobe apps as plug-ins, Skylum wants to make their software a true alternative. "Luminar is not yet an Adobe alternative, and we will work hard to make it better…We'll make you happy with your new photo software. We'll help you make incredible photos in less time," says Alex Tsepko, CEO of Skylum Software.
