Tokina has announced a couple of lenses over the past week. Let's look at the first lens announced, the Tokina 20mm f/2 FE AF FiRIN. This lens is the autofocus version of the existing FiRIN 20mm f/2 FE super wide angle full-frame prime lens for Sony E-mount.
The new autofocus version uses the same optical design as the original manual focus version, which includes a pair of aspherical elements and three super-low dispersion glass elements. The autofocus motor is ring-shaped and promises fast and accurate autofocus. The lens is fully compatible with Sony's Fast Hybrid AF system and all autofocus functions. The lens will be available in Japan in April and the rest of the world this May. Pricing is not yet available but you can bookmark this page to see ordering options as they become available.
Today, Tokina announced a new Opera 50mm f/1.4 FF lens. This premium full-frame prime lens will be releasing for Canon EF and Nikon F mounts this summer. While it will get a full reveal at the upcoming CP+2018 show, Tokina released a product shot of the upcoming lens. This lens is the first in the new "Opera" series of lenses which is designed to be a series of premium full-frame lenses for high-end DSLR cameras. The series will be expanded in the future and should be treated as Tokina's flagship product.
The 50mm f/1.4 lens will include a ring-shaped ultrasonic motor for autofocus and will include dust and moisture resistance via weather sealing. The Nikon version will employ an electric diaphragm mechanism, a first for a Nikon-mount Tokina lens. Further, both lenses' manual focus rings will follow the rotation pattern of their respective lens mounts. Stay tuned to Imaging Resource for the full details on this lens as they become available.
