Ben Horne travels back to Zion and finds a land frozen in time

 

 

Photographer Ben Horne spent some time at Zion this autumn -- you can see the videos from his trip at his YouTube channel -- and he's gone back for winter shooting.

With his large-format film camera gear in tow, Horne was surprised to find that some of the fall color was still around. Further, the area didn't look very different in January when he returned. While the scenery was similar, the sand in the area was more frozen and had a nice look to it, so Horne treaded very carefully as to not disturb a potential foreground element. With the mud having been frozen into neat and elaborate shapes and patterns, Horne had many interesting options to choose from for foreground. As you can see in the video below, ultimately Horne settled on an interesting pattern for his composition.
