How to find the best light for your outdoor portraiture

 

 

Photographer and YouTuber Jessica Kobeissi has a lot of great videos aimed at all levels of photographer. Her latest video is more geared to beginners, particularly those who want to get into portraiture but don't yet have lighting gear. If you don't have lights, no problem, the sun works great! Outdoor portraiture is an awesome way to cut your teeth.

As Jessica points out, it's not as simple as getting a model and going outside. You must understand the different kinds of light that you will have at different times of the day and when the weather conditions vary. Composition is of course very important, as is wardrobe, makeup and hair in many cases, but light is the ultimate determinant of a good or bad photograph, no matter the subject.
