Not long after Sigma announced their new 14-24mm f/2.8 DG HSM Art zoom lens, we were able to get our hands on it and put it through its paces in the wild. While our lab testing results are still to come, I was able to Field Test the lens up here in Maine paired with a Canon 5DS R camera.

During my time with the lens, it impressed me considerably for its build quality and image quality. The lens has weather sealing, too, as well as very good zoom and focus rings and a robust feel. While the optics aren't perfect -- what lens is perfect, after all? -- the image quality is very good and certainly deserving of Sigma's "Art" designation. The lens also delivers good autofocus speed and performance, although it doesn't include any built-in image stabilization. Regarding focusing, the lens' close focus distance also impressed me.

In my Field Test, I include numerous sample and test images, testing the optical limits of the lens and finding out where its strengths and weaknesses lie. To see those and learn more about my real-world usage of the new ultra-wide angle zoom, head over to my Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 Art Field Test.
