Whenever you get a new camera, or even if you have been using the same one for a while, it's very important to understand the limits of your camera, particularly with respect to ISO and dynamic range. There's no hard limit for what counts as the highest ISO you can use while still producing good images because each photographer can have different standards and also will be using their files in a variety of ways. For example, a photographer who exclusively shares their work on Instagram might be able to shoot at a much higher ISO than a photographer who uses the same camera but makes many large-format prints.

How can you determine the highest ISO you will want to use with your own camera when out in the field? You have to test it out. In the video below, photographer Dave Morrow goes through an ISO and dynamic range test with his own camera. He shows us how to set your camera up in the field and then how to evaluate files on your computer using Adobe Camera Raw.

You can also learn more about ISO in general from Morrow by clicking here to read his very thorough guide on ISO, noise and image quality. It's a great guide so be sure to check it out or bookmark it for later viewing.
