Sigma has announced availability and pricing for its upcoming 70mm f/2.8 DG Macro Art lens, the first macro prime lens in its ever-growing “Art” series of high-end lenses.

The lens will be available in Canon, Sigma and Sony E-mount versions and will cost $569 USD in all three cases. However, the release dates for the different mounts are being staggered. First up is the Canon mount by the end of this month. Following in June is the Sigma version with the Sony E-mount macro coming “later.” You’ll also notice that there is no announcement regarding a Nikon version.

Looking closer at the Sigma 70mm f/2.8 Art lens, it is the successor to the Sigma 70mm f/2.8 EX DG macro and promises high resolution performance in a more rugged, durable design. To ensure optimal image quality at every focusing distance, the lens features an extending, floating two-group focus mechanism. The focus system itself is focus-by-wire and features a newly-developed DC motor for precise focusing, which is of course a must for macro shooting. The Canon mount version also features compatible with Canon Lens Aberration Correction. The lens is compatible with Sigma teleconverters and Sigma's Electronic Flash Macro EM-140 DG.
