What happens when you come home empty-handed from a photography trip?

 

 

Large-format nature photographer Ben Horne regularly captures great images. But every so often, things don't go according to plan and he comes home from a trip empty-handed. That doesn't mean that a trip without usable photos doesn't still offer something useful. For Horne, he learned valuable lessons that have helped him more consistently produce portfolio-quality shots on each of his subsequent trips.

It's an unusual behind the scenes video to join Horne on a trip where he isn't taking photos, but it's something we have likely all experienced ourselves and will experience again. Horne had been on a good streak, having not come away empty-handed on a dedicated photo trip since 2011.
