Using a color checker to ensure consistent and true-to-life color balances

Jay P. Morgan of The Slanted Lens recently did a very cool photoshoot with the band ArcAttack. ArcAttack utilizes tesla coils in their musical act, giving their shows a distinct and exciting look. To photograph them, their tesla coils also introduce lighting and color challenges.
To help keep things consistent, every time Morgan changes the lighting in a scene or does a new setup, he'll take a shot with a Datacolor color checker. This will allow him to precisely dial in colors and exposures in Photoshop. To see behind the scenes footage and how to utilize a color checker in Photoshop, check out the video below.
