Last week, Rokinon -- maker of lenses which aim to offer pro performance at a good value -- announced the AF 24mm f/2.8 full frame lens for Sony E-mount cameras. Dubbed "The Big Mini," the 24mm (36mm on Sony APS-C mirrorless cameras such as the A6500) prime is quite compact, weighing only 3.3 ounces (93 grams). The lens is 1.46 inches (37 millimeters) long.
The lens has been designed around three primary features: optical quality, portability and silent autofocus. The first two have been helped by advanced manufacturing techniques, allowing for a wider angle of view than their existing 35mm lens without compromising quality or performance. Optically, the lens has seven elements across seven groups. There are three aspherical elements and a pair of High Refractive Index elements. Further, Rokinon has applied their Ultra Multi-Coating to minimize chromatic aberrations and unnecessary light dispersion.
The autofocus lens has a minimum focusing distance of 9.5 inches (24 centimeters). The compact lens is expected to be available in July for a street price of $399. It includes a reversible lens hood, lens cap and a custom fitted case. You can preorder the lens via the link below.
