When you edit your images, the hope is that you fix mistakes and enhance the strengths of an image, thereby making it better. However, there are times when a person's editing or processing actually make an image worse. Fortunately, you can always edit an image again, but you still need to know what the mistake is. That's where educators such as Scott Kelby and Serge Ramelli come in.
Serge and Scott discuss ten post-processing mistakes photographers make. Fans of Ramelli's work often send him images for critique and he sees the same mistakes over and over. Before getting into editing mistakes, Ramelli and Kelby discuss how frequently they see images that are shot during the middle of the day. Before you can get a great final shot, you need a good starting place and that means shooting a scene with the best possible light. Sometimes you are only in a location for a short period of time, but if you can get up for sunrise or wait until sunset, that's how you'll give yourself the best chance at an amazing shot. Moving on, a common editing mistake is overdoing adjustments and introducing a glowing area around edges. This can happen most frequently when making shadow and highlight adjustments and it creates an unnatural appearance.
In addition to showing examples of mistakes, the duo shows you how to avoid the mistake and properly edit an image. It's an interesting watch and if you're a beginner in particular, there's a lot you can learn in the video below.
