Chasing sunrise: The most challenging aspect of landscape photography could be the early mornings

If you shoot outdoors, you’ve likely heard about the golden hour, that hour or so window around sunrise and sunset when the light is particularly excellent. If you’re a landscape photographer in particular, then you know first-hand that one of the most challenging aspects of shooting landscapes are the difficult hours. Depending on your location, at different times of the year the sun may breach the horizon at hours such as 4 in the morning. Considering that best shots come with preparation, this could mean waking up, driving, hiking and setting up in the middle of the night. It’s hard.
For Nigel Danson, it’s the hardest part of the job. However, many of his best and favorite shots have been captured around sunrise and it’s “without a doubt” his favorite time of day for landscape photography. It’s a challenge, yes, but it’s one he’s never regretted facing. In the video below, Danson discusses sunrise shooting and takes us on a nice photoshoot as he chases morning mist.
