There's actually as much software as firmware news in this week's Firmware Friday roundup, which arrives bearing news from Fujifilm, Nikon and Panasonic. If you're shooting the Fujifilm X-T3, Nikon Coolpix W300 or Panasonic VariCam LT, or you use the software which accompanied your Fuji camera, then you'll want to read on! (For the rest of you whose products are unaffected, how about a read of senior editor William Brawley's Nikon Coolpix P1000 field test or perhaps our recent deep-dive Q&A with Canon's EOS R / RF-mount engineers.)
Without any further ado, let's check out what's new!
Fujifilm X-T3, Raw File Converter EX, X Raw Studio and Tethered Shooting Software
Starting things off this week with Fujifilm, the company has launched firmware version 1.01 for the X-T3 mirrorless camera. The new release makes several changes as follows, courtesy of the official release notes:
-
Compensation of distortion is optimized in CH shooting with electronic shutter.
-
The phenomenon is fixed that the mechanical LOCK of some SD cards is not recognized.
-
Fix of other slight defects
Fuji has also updated its Raw File Converter EX, X Raw Studio and HS-V5 Tethered Shooting Software packages. The update to Raw File Converter EX 3.0 doesn't provide any official release notes, but it's essentially a rebadged and tweaked Silkypix 8, the second from most recent major release available direct from Japan's Ichikawa Soft Laboratory.
Moving along to Fujifilm X Raw Studio version 1.3.0, the update adds support for the X-T3 camera body and also improves image conversion speed. Finally, the Tethered Shooting Software HS-V5 version 1.11.0 release adds support for the X-T3 body, including USB / Wi-Fi tethered capture and settings backup / restoration.

Nikon Coolpix W300
Firmware version 1.3 for the Nikon Coolpix W300 (download here), meanwhile, makes just one change. Previously, during time-lapse photography the focus would gradually drift away from the position at which it was supposed to be locked from the first frame. This issue has now been fixed.
Panasonic VariCam LT
Finally for our roundup, we come to the Panasonic VariCam LT. Firmware version 31.02-00-0.00 fixes a problem where, once in every 20 times a 3D lookup table was loaded and the camera rebooted, it would be incorrectly replaced by the V709 3D LUT. You can get this update here.
And that's all for this week. Be sure to check back next time, or browse our archive of past roundups here!
