A member of the Sony Alpha Collective, photographer Paola Franqui is the latest subject of Adorama’s Through the Lens web-docu series.

Franqui is a street photographer and describes herself as a visual storyteller. She was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico and moved to the United States at age 14. She had never seriously considered photography as a career, so she studied criminal justice and sociology in university before taking up photography in 2012. In fact, she started taking more photos because of how popular Instagram became. Inspired, she started taking photos of any subject she found interesting, including landscapes, food photos and more. Ultimately, it was street photography that captivated Paola the most. “I just wanted to go out there and document life,” she says in the video below.

Quickly, her Instagram following grew and she started receiving more photographic opportunities. Eventually, she was having to decline too many requests and she decided to go full-time into photography by quitting her 9-to-5 job.
