Some locations never grow old: Follow large-format film photographer Ben Horne in Zion National Park

Landscape and nature photographer Ben Horne fondly remembers his first ever trip to Zion National Park in Utah. He was seven years old and his family went on a summer camping trip from California to Montana, stopping at many parks along the way. Horne remembers seeing the sandstone cliffs for the first time as a summer thunderstorm rolled through the park. Thunder echoed off the canyon walls. His next trip to Zion wasn’t until 2008, when he visited with his girlfriend, who is now his wife, and he was immediately hooked on Zion. When it came time the next year to plan his first-ever dedicated photography trip, Zion was a natural destination. Horne has been visiting Zion regularly ever since.
In the video below, we follow Horne on his first day in Zion during his Fall 2018 trip. As always, he travelled with his large format photography gear and explored some really interesting areas inside the park. In the end, he captured a vibrant scene with rich color and textures. You can see his photographic process and the final image in the full video. Stay tuned to Ben Horne’s YouTube channel as he shares additional videos from his latest trip to Zion.
