Adding color and style to your images using levels adjustment layers

 

 

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to color tone any image in under five minutes? Now you can with the help of Aaron Nace over at Phlearn. This process, outlined in the video below, utilizes levels adjustments layers in Adobe Photoshop.

Before we get started, it's important to note that this process is completely nondestructive, meaning you can go back later and change or remove your color tone edits with no harm done. Levels are commonly utilized to adjust the brightness of images, but they can also be used to adjust colors. Further, by adjusting colors through a levels adjustment, you can selectively apply changes in color tones to highlights and shadows independently.
