An infrared balloon ride with Ted Forbes and his full-spectrum Sony NEX-7

Ted Forbes of The Art of Photography recently sent his old Sony NEX-7 camera into Sony and had them convert it into a full-spectrum camera. This means that Sony removed the infrared and low-pass filters from the camera's image sensor, which allows the camera to record light beyond the visible spectrum. You can limit the light by using filters in front of your lens. In Forbes' case, he uses a 720nm infrared filter so that his camera saw only infrared light.
The end result are very neat and distinct images. In the video below, we join Forbes on a hot air balloon ride with his newly-modified camera. Readers, have you ever shot infrared photography, either with film cameras or a modified digital camera? Let us know in the comments below.
