Good news, Nikon Z-mount shooters: The native lens options for your Z6 or Z7 camera just grew with the announcement of another optic which will be shipping this spring. The Nikkor Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S has been on the roadmap since the Z-series cameras first launched in 2018, but it's only now that we're getting to know its full specifications, and it looks to be a pretty interesting optic.
In an envelope that falls somewhere in between the size and weight of the existing Z-mount 24-70mm f/4 lens and a similar f/2.8 optic aimed at a full-frame DSLR, the weather-sealed Z 24-70mm f/2.8 packs in new manual focus ring and function button controls, plus a handy little organic electroluminescent display atop the barrel on which you can confirm lens-related exposure settings quickly.
Nikon is promising the optic will offer both swift, quiet autofocus and "stunning sharpness all the way to the corners of the frame". It's also the first to include a brand-new ARNEO coating in addition to the existing Nano Crystal Coat and fluorine coatings of past Nikkor lenses. Priced at around US$2,300 list, the Nikkor Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S will ship from spring 2019. For more details, read our Nikkor Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S preview!
