Though they are not yet revealing the price, Panasonic has announced a time frame for the highly-anticipated video-centric firmware upgrade that will be available for the Panasonic Lumix S1 full frame camera. When Panasonic's latest camera comes to market in early April, it will come loaded with many video features that folks will like, but it's not quite up to what one would expect if they are used to the features found in Panasonic's extremely popular GH5S or an upgraded GH5. In order to meet the demands of higher-end video shooters, Panasonic previously promised a firmware update that would dramatically improve the video features found in the Lumix S1, but they never shared when that firmware upgrade would arrive or how much it would cost.
Today, we have the answer to one of those questions.
Panasonic has announced that the company will release a software upgrade key for the Lumix S1 in July 2019. This paid firmware upgrade is to further expand the video performance of the LUMIX S1 for advanced video recording. The optional Software Update Key will be available for purchase from authorized Panasonic dealers.
Functions available with the upgrade program are as follows:
- 4:2:2 10-bit 4K 24p/30p internal video recording
- 4:2:2 10-bit 4K 60p HDMI output
- Full V-Log recording
So while we are still in the dark with regards to how much this upgrade is going to cost, we at least know to expect it sometime in July of this year.
