How to smooth skin in Photoshop and how to process a portrait from start to finish using only Lightroom

 

 

This weekend, we have a trio of portrait retouching tutorial videos to share with you. In the videos below, you will learn how to smooth skin in Photoshop and how to process a portrait from start to finish using only Adobe Lightroom.

The first two videos are focused on skin smoothing in Photoshop. The first is from Nathaniel Dodson of tutvid and focuses on how to quickly smooth skin without making it blurry or overly smooth. The second video is from Jesús Ramirez of Photoshop Training Channel. His video covers a few different high-end retouching techniques you can use to smooth skin while retaining a natural and realistic overall appearance. Ultimately, both videos highlight the importance of not overdoing the skin smoothing and retouching. After all, we don't want the people in our photos to look fake.

If you prefer Lightroom to Photoshop, you can still do a lot of portrait retouching right inside of Lightroom. While the tools are not as advanced or full-featured in Lightroom as they are in Photoshop, the popular all-in-one software is still very capable. In the tutorial below, Anthony Morganti demonstrates how to process a portrait from start to finish in less than five minutes.
