Ricoh Imaging has today announced the release of the HD Pentax-DA Fish-Eye 10-17mm f/3.5-4.5 ED lens. This is an updated version of the existing Pentax 10-17mm lens and features the latest Pentax HD coating and a redesigned body.
The zoom lens provides a 180-degree diagonal angle of view at 10mm on APS-C format cameras and can focus as closely as 0.46 feet (0.14 meters). This results in a maximum magnification of 0.39x. The lens includes 10 elements in 8 groups and the new version features a multi-layer HD coating on its elements, which Pentax states will result in improved contrast and sharpness while minimizing ghosting and flare. Further, like the original 10-17mm, the revised version includes Super Protective (SP) coating on the front element to render it easier to clean and more repellant to water, grease and dirt.
With respect to styling, the new HD Pentax-DA Fish-Eye 10-17mm lens has been redesigned to match the designs of the latest Pentax K-mount DSLR cameras and also to introduce a removable lens hood. When mounted on a Pentax K-1 or K-1 Mark II camera, the photographer can remove the lens hood to capture nearly circular fish-eye images. The lens weighs approximately 11.4 ounces (323 grams) with the hood attached and is 2.8 inches (70 millimeters) long with a maximum diameter of 2.7 in. (67.5mm). The lens' overall dimensions and weight are nearly identical with those of its predecessor.
The new HD Pentax-DA Fish-Eye 10-17mm f/3.5-4.5 ED lens will be available at the end of July with a suggested retail price of $499.95 USD. You can learn more about the lens by clicking here.
