Releasing this fall, Skylum's Luminar 4 raw image editor and library application looks to be full of many new features. We have already been given sneak peeks of AI Sky Replacement and AI Structure technologies, and now we have two more artificial intelligence-powered image editing tools to look at: AI Skin Enhancer and Portrait Enhancer.
These tools utilize machine learning to speed up the processing and retouching of portraits while still giving detailed controls to the photographer. Rather than need to make every adjustment manually, when using AI Skin Enhancer and Portrait Enhancer, photographers can let the software do some of the legwork, while also being able to take the automatic (and if desired, manual) adjustments and apply them to additional images with ease.
AI Skin Enhancer leverages AI to automatically detect a subject's face and locations of skin. AI Skin Enhancer allows you to then remove various skin imperfections while simultaneously smoothing the skin. Importantly, the feature has been designed such that small details such as skin pores and hair such as eyelashes are preserved even when smoothing skin. Users retain control over the strength of the skin smoothing as well.
The new Portrait Enhancer is a collection of tools which allow the user to easily and quickly improve their portrait images. There are available adjustments for eight areas, including: face-aware lighting, eye improvement, dark circle removal, red eye fix, face contouring, eye enlargement, eyebrows and lips/teeth enhancement. You can adjust various facial features in a matter of seconds using sliders. There are also built-in presets.
Of the new tools, Skylum CEO, Alex Tsepko, said the following:
“Being able to enhance portraits is a skillset that our customers have been asking for. AI Skin Enhancer will provide automated skin retouching, removing things like blemishes helping to smooth the skin, while Portrait Enhancer will bring customizable tools to help create professional portraits like never before. A photographer can unlock the beauty of an image in seconds, which means there’s no reason to not get the best from every photo.”
Both tools will be available when Luminar 4 launches this fall. You can preorder the upcoming software now by clicking here.
