There has been a flurry of DJI leaks and announcements in the past weeks, but it was only a few days ago that the company themselves put forward anything resembling official word. Teasing a DJI Neo announcement, the company put out this minimal posting telling us to prepare for an unveiling on the 5th of September. Now that that announcement has been and gone, here’s what’s now been confirmed about the DJI Neo.

DJI Neo Price and Pre Order

The DJI Neo has a base RRP of $199.99. An additional package with additional batteries and propeller guards is $299.99, and an array of accessories such as VR headsets and motion controls are compatible and sold separately.

DJI Neo Specs

With the DJI Neo, the company is set to launch one of their lightest and most versatile drones: ideal for beginners, this drone weighs just 135g and is capable of 4K 30FPS shooting. You have a suite of ways to control the Neo, from AI-based tracking without a remote control, to FPV goggles, to a basic remote control - these are all sold separately, however. With the DJI Fly app, you can use voice commands or smartphone controls for your Neo, as well as choose from an array of QuickShots. For fast subject tracking and stabilized video, DJI’s RockSteady allows for smooth shooting.

The DJI Neo has a maximum horizonal speed of 18m/s, and an ascent speed of 3m/s. It can fly up to 2000m high and with a range of 7km, making for a versatile array of options for drone photography and shooting. The battery life does somewhat hamstring this versatility, however, at a paltry 18 minutes (which is why we suspect DJI is offering a multi-battery pack directly).

The lens on the DJI Neo’s 0.5” sensor is equivalent to 14mm, and has an f/2.8 aperture for bright images. This allows for 12MP photos and the aforementioned 4K video, though only in MP4 formats (no RAW images or footage, unfortunately). A single-axis gimbal allows for some fine-tuning, and an array of intelligent automated presets are available at the touch of a button. Factor that in with palm takeoff modes and the tiny form factor, and the DJI Neo is certainly a competitive consumer-grade drone.
With the DJI Neo out now, it’s only a matter of time before we get our hands on one. It may be a disappointment to intensive videographers or drone racers, but as an entry-level option, we find the DJI Neo to be a fairly good blend of price and performance. Be sure to grab yours today.

DJI Neo Release Date

The DJI Neo is available now, shipping from today. As part of today’s livestream, the DJI Neo was unveiled to the world as the newest generation of ultra-lightweight DJI drones. For drone enthusiasts looking to get their hands on the new product, you won’t have long to wait.
