Insta360 Ace Pro 2 Leak Highlights 8K Video Capabilities

There has been a flurry of action camera news as we approach the end of 2024: new GoPro Hero cameras are expected to hit shelves within the next few weeks, and DJI has an array of potential products not far behind. But it is this recent Insta360 Ace Pro 2 leak that has caught our eye. This yet-to-be-released action camera is alleged to blow the competition out of the water, though word is limited as to when that might occur.

Thanks to a leak by PhotoRumors, we have our first unofficial look at the Ace Pro 2, as it has been dubbed:

Whilst the leak doesn’t give us much to go on beyond the camera’s design, there are a few standout features worth highlighting. The display is blurry, but we can make out the “8K, 30/16:9” text: hinting at 8K 30FPS footage in the cinematic aspect ratio. Though it’s difficult to parse whether it’s 8K or 6K, we’re inclined to believe the former. Other Insta360 action cameras have been capable of such video quality, so we doubt this new unit will be a downgrade.

Also of interest in that blurred image is the “dual AI chip”, which would be a literal doubling of the original Ace Pro’s AI-powered capabilities. What that means in practice is hard to definitively say, but expect upscaled images and noise reduction as a baseline set of features. More in focus, in more ways than one, is the Leica Supper-Summarit-A lens that the Ace Pro 2 seemingly sports. Leica, of course, is one of the industry’s premium manufacturers, so even a compact unit such as this will hold powerful optics for high-quality images.

Though there are no details on the Insta360 Ace Pro 2 release date, these initial hints are enough to get us excited. In order to compete with the latest DJI and GoPro offerings, we hope to see it before the end of 2024. Given that this seems to be a functional model, we’re holding out hope for an announcement in the near future, and will keep our ears close to the ground regarding any developments.
