28 Years Later was Apparently Shot on the iPhone 15, and I Have Thoughts
Danny Boyle is my favorite filmmaker of all time: from Shallow Grave to Steve Jobs, few directors have a portfolio as uniquely broad while also thematically consistent as his. His films are either critically acclaimed or criminally underrated, and I have been waiting with...

This teardown is particularly interesting, because the Canon T4i debuts a brand-new CMOS image sensor...
BenQ G1: The shoestring premium compact camera?
Taiwanese consumer electronics manufacturer BenQ has offered quite a few digital camera models over the years, since it was spun off from computer giant Acer Inc back in 2001. By and large, they've all had one thing in common, though: a budget-conscious design that pares features down to a bare minimum. A new model quietly introduced by BenQ about a week ago aims to change...

U.S. soldier tests Pentax DSLRs’ weather sealing in sand and rain “storm” in Afghanistan (VIDEO)
Pentax has built a reputation for creating tough, weatherproof digital SLRs that can stand up to the elements. (For reference, see our preview of the new, all-weather Pentax K-30.) U.S. soldier and photography buff Alex Jansen decided to challenge that reputation recently, when he put the Pentax K-7 and K-5 through a simulated sand and rain storm in Afghanistan.

Olympus CEO identifies sensor supplier for flagship mirrorless camera
When Olympus announced the flagship OM-D E-M5 compact system camera last February, rumors immediately began swirling. With an effective resolution of 16.1 megapixels, the Olympus E-M5's imager sets a new high tide mark for the company, offering the greatest resolution of any Olympus mirrorless model to date. Which sensor supplier, though, was the source of its image sensor?...
The Camera Bag: Langly Camera Bags Inspired by World War II Military Rucksacks
Photographer Evan Lane was not happy about the state of the camera bag so he decided to design his own. And, from the prototypes we've seen, Lane's bag designs are real lookers that seem highly functional.
Called the Langly Camera Bag, Lane's creation comes in two versions -- the Alpha and the Delta -- both of which take their cues from the World War II rucksacks that...
Google’s Geeky Camera Glasses Could Be the Imaging Industry’s Latest “Spork”
The other day a couple of skydivers jumped out of a low flying aircraft and photographed the city of San Francisco as they glided down to land on the Morscone Center. Had they been ordinary parachutists under the heightened security after 9/11, they would have been plucked out of the sky or shot down, by Air Force jets long before they could exit their aircraft.
But these...

Does your Canon T4i suffer from identity crisis?
Right before the July 4th holiday, Canon USA published a product advisory for its EOS Rebel T4i digital SLR. The cause? A case of mistaken identity.
According to the advisory, certain Rebel T4i cameras sold in the United States and Puerto Rico incorrectly identify themselves in the EXIF header of captured images. Instead of the camera's US-market name, some Rebel T4i...

Samsung’s WiFi EX2F—Not Just Smart But Bright Too
In a world where every digicam is "above average," Samsung has raised the IQ of its new EX2F with two unusual features.
The more exciting one is the fast, f/1.4 lens. The company rightly brags that nobody else offers that greedy a lens for available light. You get that f/1.4 aperture at the 24mm end of the zoom range. At the 80mm telephoto end, you don't do too badly...
The Fourth, Fireworks & Hot Dogs
Having had such a bad experience using Fireworks mode testing a recent digicam (don't ask) at the Golden Gate Bridge's 75th Birthday, we pretty much have sworn off stills in favor of HD movies of the things for the Fourth of July.
It's ironic that so much of what a digicam tries to do with the average snapshot is just plain wrong for fireworks:
• Autofocus? Forget it,...

Les Tirmenstein has launched a Kickstarter project for his FlashPipe, a new design in diffusers for hotshoe-mounted flash.
According to Tirmenstein, "The quality of the light it produces is soft and bright with an ever-so-slight warming that makes skin tones look great. It's incredibly lightweight at just one ounce. And the coolest part is that it folds flat when not in...

Checkin’ out these hot summer pancakes (shooting the Canon 40mm f/2.8 lens)
As the year of the lens rolls on, I snagged the 40mm f/2.8 pancake for the weekend and managed to get off a shot or two with it. Though it didn't dazzle quite as much as the $900 Olympus 75mm M.Zuiko I posted last week, the Canon 40mm pancake could be a good choice for your first prime lens. It's small, light and affordable at $200, and serves both APS-C and full-frame...
