Mobile Phones Take a Leading Role in Video Capture
(Weymouth, MA) January 06, 2012…Increasingly, consumers are using their mobile phones to capture photos and videos. In fact, in a recent InfoTrends videography end-user survey, respondents cited mobile phones as the device that they use most often to capture video. This is the first year that mobile phones have taken the leading role in video capture.
What type of device do you use MOST OFTEN to shoot videos?
It is important for vendors to recognize the shift towards cellular devices and to direct their efforts towards smartphone/ camera phone video usage. “To encourage this behavior, mobile phone vendors should strive to offer an enhanced videography experience, such as higher quality video capture, an improved user interface, and easier video sharing, for on-the-go consumers,” commented InfoTrends group director Ed Lee.
Because consumers already carry their mobile phones with them at all times, these devices are always accessible for spontaneous video capture. If vendors educate consumers on improved recording and sharing capabilities, consumers will be more likely to utilize the video features on their camera phone or smartphone.
InfoTrends' 2011 Videography End-User Survey considers the videography habits of respondents who own digital camcorders, digital cameras, and smartphones/camera phones with video capabilities. It also identifies key demographics by device and usage. Lastly, it discusses the video capture habits of today's consumers compared to a corresponding InfoTrends study conducted in 2010. This document provides manufacturers of digital videography devices with a snapshot of the consumer video capture market and offers insight and advice for best practices.
