Sanyo: New model for Xacti HD-series

15:38 EST - Japanese consumer electronics company Sanyo Electric Co. Ltd. has unveiled a new digital camera that updates its existing Xacti HD1a model with some new features.

The original Xacti HD1 was launched at the Consumer Electronics Show a year ago, followed mid-year by the HD1a (which dropped the original model's OLED display in favor of a more standard LCD display, added a couple of new still and video resolutions, and made it possible to edit videos in-camera). Samsung: 10mpix, 5x zoom digicam

13:36 EST - Rounding out its announcements for the Consumer Electronics Show, Samsung revealed its new S1050 digital camera.

The Samsung S1050 features a Samsung SHD-branded f/2.8 - f/4.4, 5x optical zoom lens with a generous (at the telephoto end, at least) 38 - 190mm equivalent focal range. The S1050 couples this with - as the name would suggest - a ten megapixel CCD imager that yields a maximum resolution of 3648 x 2736 pixels. Samsung announces S850 digicam

12:01 EST - The Samsung S850 has - as you might guess from the name - a sensor resolution of eight megapixels coupled to a Samsung SHD-branded 5x optical zoom lens.

This provides a zoom range from 38mm - a moderate wide angle - to a useful 190mm telephoto, with maximum aperture varying from a fair F2.8 at wide angle to F4.4 at telephoto. Macro focusing is to a minimum of one centimeter at wide angle. Samsung: Two new S-series digicams

21:13 EST - The Samsung S630 and S730 are closely related models, sharing basically identical bodies and differing mainly in sensor resolution.

The S630 offers a sensor resolution of six megapixels, and the S730 boosts this to seven megapixels. Preliminary specifications suggest that the S730, despite its higher resolution from the same sensor size, may offer a higher maximum ISO sensitivity of ISO 1000- versus ISO 800 on the S630 - but this spec is marked as "to be determined" and hence may change before release. The Samsung L700 features a Samsung NV-branded f2.8 - f4.9, 3x optical zoom lens with a fairly standard 35 - 105mm equivalent focal range. 01:06 EST - Alongside its announcement of a new atomic solar wristwatch and the celebration of the company's one billionth calculator at CES in Las Vegas, Casio Inc. has unveiled what could turn out to be one of the more interesting cameras announced at the show...

The Casio EXILIM Hi-Zoom EX-V7 is said to be the world's slimmest digital camera with a 7x optical zoom lens, as of the current date. Kodak: Two new EasyShare digicams

15:12 EST - Eastman Kodak Co. has today announced two new digital camera models for the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Kodak EasyShare V803 and V1003 are essentially identical with the exception of pricing and sensor resolution - eight and ten megapixels respectively. Both cameras feature a Kodak Retinar-branded 3x optical zoom lens, 2.5" LCD display (but no optical viewfinder), a high ISO mode that offers a maximum sensitivity of ISO 1600 equivalent, and a whopping 22 scene modes.
