"Picky Details" for the Kodak EasyShare LS443 Digital Camera
(Timing, Power, and Storage Info)

Timing
I measure both cycle times and shutter delay times, using a test system I designed and built for the purpose. (Crystal-controlled, with a resolution of 0.001 second.) Here are the numbers I collected for the Kodak EasyShare LS443:

Kodak EasyShare LS443 Timings
Operation
Time
(secs)
Notes
Power On -> First shot
5.54
Longer than average, camera extends lens and then displays a startup screen.
Shutdown
3.13
About average for a retractable-lens camera.
Play to Record, first shot
1.83
Time until first shot is captured.
Record to play
1.63
Time to display a large/fine file after capture.
Shutter lag, full autofocus (wide/tele)
1.26/1.54
A fair bit slower than average, particularly in telephoto mode.
Shutter lag, prefocus
0.23
Faster than average. Time to capture, after half-pressing and holding down the shutter button.
Cycle Time, max/min resolution
2.3-~8.0
2.2-5.6
First numbers are for large/fine files, second number is time for small/basic images. The camera captures three files fairly quickly, then must process each file.
Cycle Time, continuous mode, max/min resolution
0.56/0.56
(1.7 fps)
First pair of numbers is for large/fine, second set for small/basic files. Numbers beneath are corresponding frames per second. Quite fast, though the camera only snaps three images in a series, after which you must wait 18-25 seconds for the data to be written to the memory card before you can snap the next set of three.

Power
The LS443 uses a single lithium-ion battery pack for its power source, with good to excellent battery life. Run time is average to better than average with the LCD illuminated, but really excellent when the LCD is left turned off. Worst case run time, in capture mode with the LCD turned on, is a bit less than an hour and a half. With the LCD off though, run time stretches to nearly 9 hours. Despite this generally excellent battery life, I still strongly recommend that you purchase a second battery when you buy the camera - Digicam batteries obey Murphy's Law flawlessly, always running out at the worst possible moment.

Storage Capacity
The LS443 stores its photos either on SD memory cards or its internal 16 megabytes of memory. (As no memory card comes with the camera, I strongly recommend buying at least a 64MB card, to give yourself extra space for extended outings.) The chart below shows how many images can be stored on the internal 16MB memory at each size/quality setting.

Download Speed
The LS443 connects to a host computer via a USB interface or the Kodak EasyShare camera dock. USB interfaces are generally fairly fast, running between 300 and 600 kilobits per second. A missing cable prevented me from measuring the LS443's download time though...
