Samsung NX5 Overview
Posted: 06/01/2010
Announced by Samsung Germany at the end of May 2010, little information is currently available on the Samsung NX5, and how it differs from the company's previous NX10 model. We do know that it shares the same 14.6 effective megapixel APS-C sized, CMOS image sensor that previously featured in the NX10, and which is a development of that used in Pentax's now-discontinued K20D digital SLR. This obviously sits behind the same Sansung NX lens mount, and like its sibling, the NX5 features contrast detection autofocusing.
The Samsung NX5 also retains an electronic viewfinder, although we don't currently know if the specification is identical to that of the NX10. The one change we do know of in the Samsung NX5 is that it replaces its more expensive sibling's 3.0-inch VGA AMOLED display with a more traditional TFT LCD display. The display's diagonal size is identical to that of the NX10, but the NX5's display resolution hasn't yet been stated.
In other respects, including body design, we believe the Samsung NX5 is largely similar to the existing camera, but we're awaiting the availability of more detailed specifications with which to confirm this. In Europe, the Samsung NX5 is scheduled to begin shipping from June 2010, priced at €699.
