Buy the Samsung TL105
Following on from the seven new digital camera models the company announced at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show, Samsung announced its ultracompact TL105 in mid-January 2010. Most specifications for the Samsung TL105 have yet to be revealed, with only a brief outline of the TL105's features and functionality so far available.
What we do know is that the Samsung TL105 is based around a twelve megapixel image sensor, and includes a 4x optical zoom lens that provides 35mm-equivalent focal lengths ranging from a useful 27.5mm wide angle to a 110mm telephoto. Sadly, the TL105 only includes Samsung's Digital Image Stabilization function, rather than a true optical (lens-based) or mechanical (sensor shift) image stabilization system. Digital image stabilization uses software to attempt to reduce the effects of blur in-camera. Images are framed and reviewed on a 2.7-inch LCD display with 230,000 dot resolution, roughly equivalent to a 320 x 240 pixel array.
The TL105 includes face detection capability, which allows the camera to provide a skin-smoothing beauty shot function. As well as a Program Auto mode, the TL105 includes a selection of scene modes that allow the user some control over the look of images without needing to understand the settings being adjusted. These include Beauty Shot, Night, Frame Guide, Portrait, Children, Landscape, Close-up, Text, Sunset, Dawn Backlight, Beach & Snow, and Fireworks. The Samsung TL105 also includes a range of effects modes including Fisheye, Lomo, Miniature and Vignetting, as well as photo style options that include Normal, Soft, Vivid, Forest, Retro, Cool, Calm, Classic, Negative, Custom RGB, Sketch, and DeFog Clear/Fog Lifting. There's also a 720p high definition 30 frames-per-second H.264 video mode.
Pricing for the Samsung TL105 hadn't been disclosed at press time. Availability is slated for February 2010.
