Our intrepid Senior Reviews Editor, Mike Tomkins, is hands-on with the brand new Sony A7R II in sunny Portland, Oregon. Rising bright and early Pacific-time this morning, Mike's sent over a first batch of real-world gallery shots for your pixel-peeping pleasure.

Sporting a brand-new 42.4-megapixel back-illuminated Exmor R full-frame CMOS sensor, the new Sony A7R II ups the resolution from the already-staggering 36MP chip in the original A7R. This brand new sensor makes it possible to capture very high-resolution stills and video and also provides improved performance thanks to up to 3.5x faster data throughput than its predecessor -- the A7R II is not only high-res, but quick too!

The A7R II also enjoys a big boost in high ISO sensitivity -- up to an expanded ISO 102,400 -- thanks to the sensor's back-side illuminated design and powerful BIONZ X image processor.

Mike will be shooting in Portland all week long so we'll continue to update our Sony A7R II Gallery for your perusal. In the meantime, take a look below at a few re-sized sample images (click to view full-res), or jump right over to the A7R II gallery page for the full-resolution, straight-from-the-camera JPEG images as well as corresponding RAW files.
