What do you get when you combine the already-great A7R II with the new flagship A9? You get what is perhaps Sony's most versatile full-frame mirrorless camera to date: the A7R Mark III. The A7R III maintains its high-resolution prowess thanks to a 42MP sensor (the same as in the Mark II), however due to some electronic wizardry (updated circuitry and the A9's newer BIONZ X processor, for instance), image quality and dynamic range are nevertheless improved. The camera also gains impressive speed and performance upgrades -- again, thanks to the A9 --  especially when it comes to autofocus. Not only does the A7R III offer high-resolution images, it's now nimble and speedy enough for action and sports too.

We've just published our final conclusion for our in-depth A7R III review, and boy, the A7R III is an amazingly versatile camera! Overall, the A7R III features improvements in pretty much every area: physical design, image quality, performance, features, as well as video recording and battery life. The Mark III fixes a bunch of the shortcomings of the Mark II. The A7R Mark III is an all-around stunning camera, one wholeheartedly deserving as our pick for 2017's Best Professional Mirrorless Camera and darn-near a tie for our Best Overall Award for Camera of the Year.
