Earlier this week, we shared our First Shots series of lab sample images from the new Nikon Z6, but I've now had a chance to take this new 24MP full-frame mirrorless camera out into the field and bring you a wide variety of real-world images. Over the past few days, Nikon hosted a press trip in Orlando, Florida and provided a number of different shooting opportunities to put the Z6 to the test, from portraiture to wildlife and with both native Z-mount lenses as well as adapted F-mount glass.

My Nikon Z6 Field Test is just getting started, but from this initial shooting experience, the Z6 offers excellent handling and usability as well as nimble performance and great image quality. Native Z-mount lenses are sharp and lightweight and offer fast AF performance. Mounting Nikon's F-mount lenses to the Z6 with the FTZ adapter is equally impressive, and so far I've not experienced any issues in terms of image quality or AF performance. For example, shooting wildlife with the 500mm f/5.6 PF lens or portraiture with the razor-sharp 105mm f/1.4E worked wonderfully with the Z6, offering fast, accurate AF performance.

As I said, there's a lot more field testing to be done with the Z6 but for those who want to get a sense of the Z6's image quality from real-world photos, head on over to our Nikon Z6 Gallery Page. As with our lab sample images, our Z6 Image Gallery has both straight-from-camera JPEGs as well as the corresponding RAW files for download. Please note that since the Nikon Z6 is so new, RAW support with photo software is very limited.
