Samsung NX30 High ISO Noise Reduction
The Samsung NX30's four noise-reduction settings ("High, "Normal", "Low" and "Off") imply better flexibility in choosing how you want to make the trade-off between subject detail and noise levels compared to the NX20's two settings ("On" and "Off"). Since the Samsung NX30 user manual states noise reduction is applied at all ISOs, we've included crops from the base ISO below.
See for yourself how the Samsung NX30's "Normal"and "Off" High ISO NR settings compare to RAW without noise reduction under daylight-balanced lighting. (Note that these RAW images also have no sharpening applied, so they're a little softer than camera JPEGs at low ISOs.) Click on any of the crops below to see the corresponding full-sized image.
As you can see, all NX30 noise reduction settings apply noise suppression at all ISOs, even the "Off" setting (as do many cameras). Also, the "Off" setting still quite aggressively applies chroma noise reduction, however you can see more luminance noise, at least at higher ISOs. We'd personally like to see more of a difference between the settings, with lower amounts of noise reduction applied with the "Off" setting.
